Cathederal Rock National Park – overnight walk
What
An off-track hiking/bushwalking trip, to a local national park with large granite formations
surrounded by dry sclerophyll forest and heath land which should be full of spring flowers.
Possibilities include
- Exploratory scrambling to the top of granite domes
- Exploring creek lines and hanging swamps
Walk is planned to be mostly off track but can be adjusted depending on participant interest to
include more trail.
Cathederal Rock National Park is an hour east of Armidale and is 2WD accessible.
When: 29-30 of August 2026
Itinerary
- Saturday
o Leave Armidale early approx. 0830 (meeting sport une dirt carpark, near cadet
facility/hockey fields
o Drive to Cathedral rock
o Explore
- Sunday
o walk back to car
o Return home
Gear/equipment: - contact Andrew Woolley if you need or want advice or to hire gear from the
club. Note there is a limited supply.
Food
o 2 lightweight hiking dinners (1 as a spare)
o Snacks
o 2x lunches
o 1x breakfast
o Utensils
o Bowl/plate
o Cooking equipment – (can be shared or hire can be arranged)
Water
Will be available during walk but may require side trips. Water catchment will be entirely within the
national park. Bring 3 L and some form of purification e.g. chlorine tablets or LifeStraw.
